Kicking off LVMH Watch Week 2023, Zenith continues its journey of recalling the past with a definitive nod to the future. This is especially true with the new Defy Skyline Skeleton watch. First unveiled to the world one year ago, the Defy Skyline collection has quickly garnered a following thank to its modern appeal and top-notch mechanics. The newest Defy Skyline Skeleton – offered in two colorways (black and blue) – is equipped with the brand’s EL Primero caliber and offers a highly symmetrical dial that takes its cues from modern cityscapes.
The 41mm watch is a highly angular and geometric presentation that is crafted in stainless steel and boasts a three-hand indication with a high-frequency 1/10th of a second subsidiary dial at 6:00. The El Primero 3620 SK movement is an automatic caliber with 60 hours of power reserve. It is sold with a stainless steel bracelet and an interchangeable rubber strap and is water resistant to 10 ATM. Retailing for 10,900 Swiss Francs, the watch is really all about the skeletonization and the bold movement.
In fact, the oscillating weight takes the form of a four-pointed star and the applied baton hour markers and the central hour and minute hands are filled with Super- LumiNova for easy legibility in the dark.
The architecture of the case recalls the Defy watches of the late 1960’s with its robust angular look. This appeal is further enhanced with a faceted bezel with 12 sides that are positioned as extensions to the hour markers. As mentioned, the watch is sold with interchangeable bracelet and strap using the brand’s quick strap-change system.
“In just one year, the DEFY Skyline has become one of the most in-demand lines for Zenith,” says Julien Tornare, CEO. “Its strong visual identity, unique movement and effortless versatility have made it a compelling choice within the sporty steel bracelet segment.”
