Think Chanel and you think classic style. Black and white, black and gold, leather and chain and tailored elegance. That’s why one of the key gifts that should be on your holiday list (as a self-purchase or a gift) should be a Chanel watch. From the Boyfriend watch to the J12 and the all new Premiere Edition Originale – you can’t go wrong.
Chanel has long been a haute couture brand that reached out into accessories such as handbags, leather goods and — of course– fragrances. Then, in 1987, the Parisian based house unveiled its first wristwatch — Swiss made, of course. Called the Premiere, that first watch was conceived of by Jacques Helleu, artistic director, and featured an octagon case that recalled the bottle stopper of the iconic Chanel No. 5 fragrance and was inspired by the shape of Place Vendome, the area of Paris that Chanel called home.
It boasted a chain link bracelet interwoven with leather like the signature look on the brand’s handbags. The idea was to create a timeless statement that would be classic and stylish forever. It worked. While there have been many iterations of the Premier over the years, the newest one is all about returning to the roots but with a modern, sleeker overall design.
Director of the Chanel Watch Creation Studio, Arnaud Chastaingt, recreated the octagonal shaped watch in a black and gold color way using 18-karat yellow gold plating on stainless steel for the case and bracelet link. The black dial is lacque with just the gold-hued hands and Chanel logo on it. The sapphire crystal boasts beveled corners and edges in octagon shape and offers great dimension. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters. It is powered by a Swiss quartz movement.
Chanel has also named that its brand ambassador, Korean-American model and artist Soo Joo Park will be the face of the new Premiere Original Edition.
