German watch brand Tutima Glashütte is continuing to expand its coveted Grand Flieger line – a beloved pilots watch that has distinguished Tutima over the decades. In fact, the brand even supplied and continues to supply military forces with its precision pilot watches. Today, Tutima releases new Grand Flieger Airport three-handed automatic watches and Grand Flieger Airport Chronographs – with distinctive colors and materials that reassert its position as a leader in this realm.
Tutima Grand Flieger Airport Watches Inspired By The Past
The new Grand Flieger Airport watches are inspired by the original Tutima pilot watches and chronographs from the 1940’s. Boasting a rich pilot-watch history, Tutima knows that clarity and legibility is key. As such, it pays close attention to the dials, using Super-LumiNova for the hands and markers for easy readability in the dark. Even the red marker at the 12:00 position on the bezel glows in the dark.
For the first time ever, Tutima equips the Grand Flieger Airport watches with high-tech ceramic bezels that are bi-directionally rotating and offer extreme scratch resistance. The bezels are color coordinated with the striking classic blue or rich military green gradient dials – offering bold aesthetics with high-tech materials.
What’s Under The Hood Of The Tutima Grand Flieger Airport Watches
The 43mm watches are powered by Tutima’s automatic movements. The three-hand automatic offers day and date at 3:00 in addition to hours, minutes and seconds. It is equipped with the self-winding Caliber 330 with a gold seal on its rotor. Meanwhile, the Grand Flieger Airport Chronograph is powered by the Caliber 310 with counters for 12 elapsed hours (at 6:00), 30 elapsed minutes (at 12:00) and 60 seconds. It also offers day and date. A striking accent on the chronograph version is the bright red central seconds hand and the subsidiary dial at 6:00 (the 12-hour totalizer) that also boasts bright red.
Crafted in stainless steel and pressure tested to 20 atmospheres, the watches feature anti-reflective sapphire crystals and case backs. This means glare-free reading of the dial, and glare-free viewing of the nicely finished movement. The exciting new watches are offered with either stainless steel bracelets or durable textiles Cordura straps in hues that color-coordinate with the dials.
Prices And Impressions Of The Tutima Grand Flieger Airport Watches
With high-tech materials, alluring dials, top-notch mechanical movements, one would expect these pilot watches to be untouchable in price. However, Tutima has always offered a great value proposition. The Grand Flieger Airport Chronograph watches with ceramic bezel retail for $3,900 on strap and $4,300 on bracelet. The Automatic watches with ceramic bezels retail for $2,500 on Cordura strap, and for $2,900 on bracelet.
The overall aesthetic is perfect for day and night, casual, sport and even an adventurous evening out. The only problem I am having is deciding which one I like better.
