There is just no other way to put it: if you are into lume on a watch — you are going to love the newest collaboration between Linde Werdelin and James Thompson of Black Badger: the Oktopus Blue Sea. This watch pushes all the boundaries when it comes to luminescence — going through five full stages of color change until the ultimate in-the-dark experience has you wanting to just stay in the dark all the time. Or, better yet, diving the deep blue sea in this 300-meter water resistant watch that emits its own searchlight effects.
The Lume Colors of the Linde Werdelin x Black Badger Oktopus Blue Sea
Aqua blue, ultramarine blue, and finally a new violet lume are used to create the mind-blowing visual effect. All three shades of blue have been specifically engineered to have a common daytime (non-glowing) color of Pantone Cool Grey #3. According to Thompson, the Badgerite material he works with was used by Linde Werdelin in different ways, including surface coating and liquid-filled engravings.
Let’s not forget, though, that this is also a watch with a good movement and great design. The case is made of an aerospace metal, ALW, developed for its weight and strength. The watch is twice as hard as steel, and yet weighs half of what it would if it was created in titanium. It is powered by a Double Date Dubois-Depraz movement. It is fitted with an interchangeable strap and created in a limited edition of just 88 pieces.
So, if you are a color fiend, you need to dive in now if you want to secure one of these incredible collaboration Oktopus Blue Sea watches. It will only set you back about $16,000.
