The collaboration between Oris and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has resulted in a masterpiece – the Oris Father Time Limited Edition, a bronze version of the iconic Big Crown Pointer Date watch. This exquisite timepiece not only celebrates the partnership between Oris and MCC but also emphasizes Oris’ commitment to bringing “Change for the Better.”
At the heart of this collaboration is the renowned Father Time weathervane, a symbol embedded in the history of Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. This weathervane, perched atop a clock tower overlooking the pitch, is more than a mere indicator of wind direction. Known affectionately as Father Time, it stands as one of the most iconic images in world cricket and sports, representing the spirit of the game.
Oris, as the proud partner and the first Official Timekeeper of Lord’s, has crafted the Father Time Limited Edition as a bronze watch, symbolizing both the formal role of the brand at the club and the shared vision of Oris and MCC to initiate positive change. The watch is a testament to their joint efforts in fostering community development, education, social engagement, and environmental sustainability.
The Father Time weathervane has a captivating origin story dating back to the 1920s when Sir Herbert Baker, the architect of Lord’s Second Grand Stand, gifted it to Marylebone Cricket Club as an apology for the delayed completion of the building project. This cast iron figure, almost a meter and a half tall, depicts Father Time stooping over cricket stumps, symbolizing the passage of time and mirroring Law 12.3 of the Laws of Cricket held by MCC.
The Oris Father Time Limited Edition is based on the iconic Big Crown Pointer Date model, featuring a signature design with an oversized crown that has been in continuous production since 1938. The 40mm case, fluted bezel, and crown are crafted from solid, naturally aging bronze, giving the watch a distinct and timeless appeal. The package includes both a bronze articulated bracelet and a light brown leather strap made from sustainably sourced deer leather by Swiss partner Cervo Volante.
The caseback of the watch is made of stainless steel and is engraved with an image of the Father Time weathervane, along with the limited-edition number. Limited to 1,926 pieces, this number signifies the year Father Time was gifted to Lord’s. The Oris Father Time Limited Edition comes in a special display box, complete with a Cervo Volante leather strap and a full bronze bracelet. The stunning watch is priced at $3,100.
