As more and more brands look to their archives for inspiration, we decided it would be interesting to pull out a few of our older average-retail-priced 1980’s and 1990’s timepieces and take a look at their size and design. Just for the fun of it. We also added a 1940’s Bulova — just because it was amazing to really examine the stretch bracelet, the tiny dial and the use of rose gold.
1980’s watches: Rado Anatom Jubile, Hublot, Alain Silberstein
You can see that in the 1980’s small watches were all the rage. Hublot had just launched its luxury watch collection, and the first watches — with porthole design — featured hinged covers. Alain Silberstein went ultra-tiny with the mechanical Mikro watch and Rado launched its Anatom Diastar Jubile model — scratch resistant!

Watches in the 1990’s ran the gamut from small, thin iconic Movado Museum watch to the woman’s IWC DaVinci in quarts. Franck Muller launched in this decade, with its Cintree Curvex collection, and IKEPOD was the rebel then, with its larger-sized monobloc case and avant-garde design.
