Tutima M2 Pioneer Chronograph
German brand Tutima is all about being creative and cutting edge, not to mention precise. In its much-coveted M2 collection, the brand has a lot to offer sports-minded individuals. Billed as the line “For men who feel at home where the air gets thinner,” the M2 collection includes the M2 Pioneer and Pioneer Chronograph — both masterful works of technical prowess.
In its workshops in Glashütte, Germany, Tutima focuses on bringing innovation and heritage together in watches inspired by aviation. Such is the case with this new automatic watch with 44 hours of power reserve. The 46.5mm solid titanium timepiece is inspired by the NATO chronograph created in 1984 and that is the official service watch of the Geramn army’s pilots. Unlike its 1984 predecessor that was equipped with a Swiss Lemania 5200 movement (that is no longer in production, this new M2 line is powered by the Manufacture-made Tutima 521 caliber.
The M2 offers magnetic resistance, pressure resistance, water resistance, extreme legibility and more.
The line offers everything one would expect from a fine aviation timepiece: good legibility, reliability, high comfort and multiple resistant properties. It is water resistant (to 30 ATM), pressure resistant (for use up to 15,000 meters above sea level),is shockproof for vibrations and acceleration of up to 7G in all directions.
The watch is equipped with large integrated chronograph pushers with neoprene to help guard against magnetism, features a bi-directional rotating bezel and anti-reflective sapphire crystal with an additional casing of mu-metal, a nickel-iron alloy that binds magnetic field streams. The time, chronograph hands and hour markers are coated in Super-LumiNova for easy readability. The M2 is sold in several versions, including the Pioneer with a non-slip rotating bezel and 14 luminous capsules for reading time intervals in full darkness. Both the Pioneer and the Pioneer Chronograph are sold on a titanium link bracelet with a rugged Kevlar weave strap alternative. The retail price is also perfect for the thinner air: $6,100 for the Kevlar strapped version.

Sinn beats this with the EZM10 on all aspects hands down, coming in at $700 cheaper and a certified pilots watch. Not to mention it’s packed with all sorts of technologies. Tutima has some strong competition at that price point.
