Patek Philippe has long been synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship, timeless elegance, and a commitment to innovation. At the Grand Exhibition held these past two weeks in Tokyo, the brand unveiled a stunning collection of wristwatches, with several featuring alluring blue and purple dials. The decision to use these brighter hues is a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation and aesthetic harmony, in addition to technical prowess, of course.
The choice of these mesmerizing colors, steeped in symbolism and emotional connections, adds depth and character to the already impressive timepieces – which, unfortunately for most, can only be obtained in the Japanese market. Still, they warrant close attention.
Color is a powerful element that can evoke a range of emotions and associations. Patek Philippe’s decision to showcase blue and purple dials reflects a thoughtful selection that goes beyond mere aesthetics. Blue, often associated with tranquility and depth, elicits a sense of calm and stability. It represents the vastness of the ocean and the limitless sky, emphasizing the timelessness of Patek Philippe watches.
Purple, on the other hand, is a color of opulence, royalty, and creativity. It exudes an air of elegance and sophistication, commanding attention and making a bold statement. By incorporating purple dials into their timepieces, Patek Philippe embraces a spirit of individuality, and a reverence for the Japanese ruling empire.
The use of these colors also represents Patek Philippe’s acknowledgement of its customers’ ever-changing tastes. Contemporary, fresh and spirited are the words that best describe the color uses. Additionally, with the use of salmon or copper color dial for one of the other watches, the brand showcases its ability to deftly blend vintage inspiration with modern flair. For another watch, the brand turned to an artistic dial center in hues of blue and white to display a map of the center of Tokyo.
While the choice of dial colors for Patek Philippe’s new collection at the Grand Exhibition may be rooted in symbolism, it is also a testament to the brand’s technical prowess. One of the colorful watches, the Reference 5330G is a World Time watch with a date indication synchronized with local time. The ultra-thin 240 HU C caliber with a mini-rotor powers the watch. The plum-colored dial has a hand-guilloched center, and the city disk features Tokyo printed in red. The 40 mm white gold case is fully polished, and the strap is made of shiny black alligator leather with a white gold fold-over clasp.
Two new Calatrava watches also come to light. These highly sought-after timepieces, the 6127G and 7127G, reserved exclusively for the Japanese market, boast an all-new Calatrava case. Inspired by the iconic 5270 model, the beveled two-tier lugs gracefully resemble butterfly wings, creating a poetic and timeless aesthetic. This distinctive design element sets the stage for a truly remarkable watch.
The dial of the Calatrava watches showcases the brand’s commitment to minimalist elegance. Slender white gold cheveu-style hands sweep across the dial, effortlessly indicating the time. The refined simplicity is accentuated by meticulously applied white gold hour markers, a finely transferred minutes scale, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, tastefully highlighted by a rhodium-plated decorative outline.
The 36mm Reference 6127G-010 features a captivating light blue lacquered dial paired with a perfectly matched shiny alligator strap. Reference 7127G-010, measuring 31mm in diameter, features a delicate lilac dial, harmonizing with the lavender alligator leather strap.
Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, the white gold cases of these limited edition watches are entirely hand-finished. Both versions are powered by the manual winding 215 PS caliber, Patek Philippe’s smallest mechanical movement measuring 21.9mm in diameter and 2.55mm in height. The solid white gold case backs proudly bear the engraving “Patek Philippe – Tokyo.” Just 100 pieces of each will be made.
However, additionally, a set of 300 limited series watches will be available as a set sold in a double presentation box containing both the Reference 6127G-010 and the Reference 7127G-010, honoring the cherished tradition of “pair watches” — particularly esteemed in the Far East. Additionally, a hundred pieces of each reference will be sold separately, allowing individuals to own these extraordinary timepieces individually.
Patek Philippe turned to a rose-gilt opaline dial in copper or salmon hue for its Reference 5308P is a Quadruple Complication watch by Patek Philippe. The platinum watch features a minute repeater, split-seconds chronograph, and instantaneous perpetual calendar. The self-winding R CHR 27 PS QI caliber with a platinum mini-rotor powers the watch. It comes with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs, and the strap is made of shiny chocolate brown alligator leather with a platinum fold-over clasp.
Also paying homage to color and to the city of Tokyo, Patek Philippe’s Reference 5531R is a Minute Repeater World Time watch by Patek Philippe. It combines a minute repeater with a world time display. The self-winding R 27 HU caliber powers the watch and strikes local time for the time zone displayed at 12 o’clock. The center of the dial features a Grand Feu cloisonné enamel depicting the center of Tokyo, and the rose gold case has a hand-guilloche hobnail pattern.
