Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Bourbon
At ATimelyPerspective, we’re all about the finer things in life—timeless craftsmanship, precision, and indulgences that elevate everyday moments. While luxury timepieces are our first love, those who know me personally know there’s another passion that rivals watches: bourbon. A well-aged, expertly blended bourbon is just as much a work of art as any horological masterpiece—and I simply can’t resist a great pour. So today, I’m pausing from the tick of the tourbillon to raise a glass to one of my favorite limited releases returning this summer: Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Bourbon, back for 2025 and better than ever.

Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Bourbon sells for $200 per bottle.
Crafted by the legendary Eddie Russell, Master Distiller at Wild Turkey Distilling Co., the Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old is a cult favorite among bourbon lovers—and for good reason. First released in 2021 to much acclaim, it returns this year at a newly reimagined barrel proof of 123.8, giving it a bolder, richer edge that reflects both time and craftsmanship. Each release of this bourbon is a small batch, non-chill filtered expression, with barrels handpicked by Eddie himself, ensuring a nuanced and distinctive profile every time.

Russell’s Reserve 13 Year Old Bourbon comes in at 123.8 proof.
This year’s bottling is particularly exciting for collectors and connoisseurs alike, as the brand moves to include each batch’s unique proof and production season on the label—an homage to the individuality of each small batch and the storied rickhouses in which they’re aged. Like a limited-edition watch with its own case number, these details turn each bottle into something truly personal and collectible.
So, what does it taste like? If previous editions were layered symphonies of flavor, the 2025 release might be the richest performance yet. On the nose, you’ll catch vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar, followed by subtle cherry (my absolute favorite tasting note) and warming baking spices—clove and nutmeg—with that signature Wild Turkey “dusty funk” that seasoned bourbon drinkers may just recognize. The palate is where it really shines: sweet cola, dark molasses, and ripe fruit evolve into lighter tones of fruit cobbler and buttercream. The finish? Long, with mature oak, char, and spice, rounded out by a final kiss of black pepper that lingers just long enough.
At $200 for a 750ml bottle, this isn’t your average week-night sipper—but then again, nothing about Russell’s Reserve 13 is average. It’s a bourbon for those who appreciate history, legacy, and flavor—just as we do at ATimelyPerspective.
