Pretty much everyone I know who sees the Rado Captain Cook line is impressed, with many opting to purchase one of the brand’s coolest lines, whether it be in bronze or steel. However, women now have an even greater selection. Today, Rado launches a new Captain Cook that embraces curves, femininity and fashion thanks to French-Austrian designer Marina Hoermanseder, who is known for her innovative yet elegant designs.
In fact, Hoermanseder began her designer career via an internship at Alexander McQueen and has gone on to be the talk of the town at many Fashion Weeks around Europe. She founded her own company in Berlin in 2013 and has become a favorite for a host of Hollywood stars, including Lady Gaga, Kylie Jenner, Paris Hilton, Kathy Perry and more. Now, she teams with Rado to create the ultimate playful Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder collection.
For this watch, she brings her love of buckles and leather straps (a signature on many of her designs) as well as her love of color to the forefront. The new 37mm watch boasts a superb soft leather strap in pale pink and is sold with two additional straps: a wraparound pink strap and a black strap. Each strap transforms the look of the watch. It is crafted in polished rose gold colored PVD coated stainless steel with a high-tech white ceramic bezel insert. Each watch has a white dial with rose gold colored applied indexes and vintage-style Super-LumiNova.
The dial is set with eight diamonds as markers . On the case back: a special Marina Hoermanseder engraving of her signature straps and buckles. Each watch is water resistant to 100 meters. Each watch is powered by a Rado caliber R763 automatic movement that offers date as well as hours, minutes and seconds. Thanks to the Rado EasyClip strap change system, the strap can be changed in seconds. The watch and accompanying straps are packaged in a pink leather carry case with signature buckle. The retail price of the watch is also pretty cool: $2,600.
According to Hoermanseder, “Working together with Rado showed me that Swiss watchmaking is not so far away from what we do here because it’s in all the details, it’s in all the millimeters, it’s all small little details that make the products perfect in the end. So, this is what I really, really enjoyed working with the team of Rado because they just understood how important all these small things are.”
She also says that her goal with the new watch as to underline a woman’s “femininity, but also [her] strength and power to shine. … A challenge was to make the Rado Captain Cook x Marina Hoermanseder very feminine. This is why we chose soft colors and rose gold. Designing this Captain Cook edition we wanted to give it a bold touch as well as a very soft and feminine one. This is what I always want with my fashion is to give women a spine, self-esteem and power. I think this watch includes all of these elements because it is in soft colors, it comes bold with the buckle and it is not a small watch, it is quite a bold piece but combined with those colors it’s feminine and timeless.”
She also says she is anxious to see the watch on the catwalk combined with her styles. “A timepiece, a watch, is an absolute fashion item. It’s so essential and I cannot wait to see it on the catwalk combined with my styles and fashion. Not only with the show pieces like the leather and the molded stuff but also with the very casual looks this watch can be the perfect bling to it.”
