Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Roadhouse is an adrenaline-stoking movie that stars none other than Conor McGregor as Knox, a mercenary for hire. Recently, at the New York preview of the movie, the 36-year-old professional boxes —known for his many titles and championships in UFC, as well as for his mixed martial arts abilities – showed off another side of his passions: watch collecting.
At the premiere, McGregor showed off his own Jacob & Co. Opera Godfather watch, an incredible three-dimensional timepiece the brand unveiled a couple of years ago. Created in a limited edition of just 88 pieces, the watch retails for $364,000. The cost stems from a combination of the complexity of the movement, its functions, the time it takes to create and assemble a single watch and the affiliation between Jacob & Co. and the Godfather movie..
In fact, just about a year-and-a-half ago, Jacob & Co. brought a group of journalists and top clients to Sicily to tour the settings of the Godfather movie, the first movie that Jacob Arabo, founder of Jacob & Co. saw in 1979 when he arrived in the United States at the age of 14 from Uzbekistan.
The watch, just one of Conor McGregor’s reportedly large watch collection, boasts “Godfather” references, including a miniature sculpture of Don Vito Corleone wearing a red rose in his lapel. The musical watch, when activated, plays the theme song to the movie. It also boasts a triple-axis tourbillon – with the various axes showcasing different elements within the domed crystal.
McGregor got a lot of attention for wearing that watch, but he is also known to own a host of others. Among the Jacob & Co. watches is an 18-karat gold Epic X Bridges (with bright green bridges that might remind him of his Irish heritage). He also owns a few Patek Philippe watches, Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks, Rolex watches and more. One look at his instagram feed and you can envision his taste when it comes to timepieces.
