It was an interesting few days on the California coast, where some of the most magnificent cars in the world were seen driving the Pacific highway and lining the famed 18th hole at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance (with Rolex holding an important role there as the Official Timepiece). This year was a big year for Bentley. Not only is the legendary British brand celebrating its 100th anniversary, but also this year, the Best of Show award went to a 1931 Bentley 8 Liter Gurney Notting Sports Tourer (owned by Sir Michael Kadoorie). The car’s engine is, as its name suggests, an 8.0 liter inline six, that could travel — in its day — at a speed of 100 miles per hour. The body work of the car is said to be one of just two specific vehicles built with this design. In order to win the Best of Show, the car must be immaculately and precisely restored to its original state.
Celebrating with Bentley is watch partner, Breitling. The two brands have had a long-standing partnership that began 16 years ago in 2003.To celebrate Bentley’s 100 years of luxury motorsports excellence, Breitling unveils the Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition watch. Crafted in 18-karat 5N rose gold and in stainless steel, the watches feature brown elm burl dials with black chronograph subsidiary dials. There is also a white tachymeter scale on the inner bezel with a red inscription.
Powered by Breitling’s Manufacture Caliber 01, the chronograph offers 70 hours of power reserve. The movement is visible through a unique transparent sapphire caseback featuring a Bentley logo. The 18-karat rose gold version is created in a limited edition of 200 pieces on a brown leather strap with stitching and pattern inspired by Bentley seats. Just 1,000 of the steel version will be made, each sporting a Bentley-inspired strap or a steel bracelet. The Breitling Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is a COSC-certified chronometer, an independent confirmation of its precision. In stainless steel, the watch retails or $10,200 on strap, $10,500 on bracelet, and in gold it sells for $28,000.
“We’re proud of our partnership with Bentley. Both companies are known for quality, per- formance, and design excellence, and both are built on powerful legacies. The Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is a celebration of Bentley’s history, its luxury, and its incredible racing pedigree, as well as its important, intimate connection to Breitling.”
Nice watch and a very nice strap. Cars and watches are both cult objects, machines that can be stylish and work perfect.
