What happens when you strip a watch dial down to its barest minimum indications: a resolute statement that offers hour and minute hands and markers – devoid of date. This is what Parmigiani Fleurier attempts to deliver in its newest Tonda PF Micro-Rotor NO Date watch. As purists often debate, date or no-date, this Swiss brand embraces discretion, clarity and a no-date approach that it hopes will have its followers clamoring.
The new timepiece, crafted in stainless steel, features a Golden Siena dial with superb Grain d’orge guilloche motif – devoid of everything but the open-worked hands, applied indices and a three-dimensional PF logo at 12:00 – all surrounded by an outer chapter ring in harmoniously hued deep sienna brown.
The star of the dial: the tiny, pointed guilloche’ work that provides texture, pattern and rich dimension. The golden brown hue, reflective of nature, is designed to exude warmth and allure. It is surrounded by a superbly textured case and finished with a fully integrated bracelet.
The 40mm watch is powered by the 160-part PF 703 automatic caliber with meticulously finished platinum micro-rotor—visible from the sapphire case back. Because of the slimness of the movement, Parmigiani Fleurier is able to offer this timepiece in a finished thickness of just 7.8mm for maximum comfort. The watch offers 48 hours of power reserve and beat at 3Hz. It retails for $25,300.
Reflecting the brand’s chromatic style, and to meet the expectations of true purists of watchmaking design, Parmigiani Fleurier takes a chance here. According to Guido Terreni, CEO, “We endeavored to offer to ‘the purist of the purists’ an object that embodies absolute clarity. Every element of this timepiece reflects our vision of discreet and timeless refinement.”
