It’s Monday morning and a great time to take a look at weekend news and early Monday events. Starting this first Monday in March, we will offer a quick take on what you may have missed from Friday before until now.
Hublot Brings Artist Daniel Arsham On As Brand Ambassdor
t’s no secret that Hublot loves Art. The brand has a host of ambassadors on board already that speak to the idea of art, sculpture and culture. Now, it turns to American contemporary artist Daniel Arsham as a new ambassador. Based in New York City, Daniel is known his multi-media approach using painting, sculpture, installation, and film. He has frequently explored the concept of time and space, as well, particularly through his Connecting Time series of works.
To celebrate the collaboration, and the inherent links between watchmaking, art and life, Hublot and Arsahm unveiled a temporary 20-meter-tall sundial in the snow surrounding the famed Swiss mountain resort of Zermatt. With the Matterhorn in the background, the new Light & Time sculpture is an outdoor timekeeping installation based on the shadows cast by the large obelisk. As the sun moves throughout the day, the shadow cast by the central pointer indicates the time in the raked snow. The sundial is made of the natural elements in the Swiss Alps, including snow and ice. A look from above the artistic grounds showcases Hublot’s Big Bang Screws that hold the bezel of the watch in place, replicated in the art. The installation is only visible from the top of the mountain. To view it, art lovers will have to use Zermatt’s ski lifts.
