Mido Unveils Baroncelli Big Date To Celebrate 100 Years

In 2018, MIDO celebrates its 100^th anniversary by continuing along the path set out by founder Georges Schaeren. Through the introduction of numerous exceptional new timepieces, MIDO reaffirms the values punctuated by the brand: timeless design, quality materials and technical innovation. In honor of this hallmark year, Mido unveils the the  Baroncelli Big Date.

After 100 years of watch making history dedicated to the tradition and know-how of the art, MIDO has become synonymous with technical innovation and timeless designs. Throughout the span of its longstanding history, the brand has created many of the watch world’s “firsts”. In 1934, the brand introduced one of the first anti-magnetic watches with a self-winding movement and built in water- and shock- resistance. In 1967, the brand launched the smallest automatic ladies watch ever manufactured in an assembly line and in 1996 MIDO released the first analog watch, which indicated the local time zone anywhere in the world. Since that time, the brand has continuously grown and innovated.

Mido Baroncelli Big Date

When reflecting back on the brand’s history, the year 1976 must be noted, as the year in which MIDO launched its first Baroncelli model. This year, in 2018, a new version of the Big Date joins the classic Baroncelli collection. The Baroncelli Big Date features a large, two-level date aperture at six o’clock – one of the largest on the market at its price point. It’s powered by the exclusive Caliber 80 movement, which provides exceptional autonomy with 80 hours of power reserve. Through the transparent sapphire case back, one can admire the movement, finely decorated with an oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and the MIDO logo. This automatic movement sits beneath a white-grained dial. The double-sided hour and minutes hands are complemented by a diamond-cut seconds hand and enhanced further by an elegant double gadroon bezel.

One version of the Big Date is housed within a round, 40mm, two-tone steel case, complemented by a two-tone bracelet thanks to rose gold, PVD-treated central links. A second style is equipped with a rose gold, PVD-treated, steel case faceted upon a black, rolled-edge crocodile leather bracelet. In keeping with the rest of the Baronelli collection, this new model instantly catches the eye with its refined design and subtle details. The Baroncelli Big Date with bracelet retails for $1,080 while the Big Date on strap retails for $1,000. This is water-resistant up to 30 meters.
