Nearly 50 years ago in 1975, Bulgari unveiled a watch that would transcend time and become an enduring symbol of bold beauty. Bulgari Bulgari, born from the creative collaboration between Gianni Bulgari and renowned designer Gérald Genta, has emerged as an iconic timepiece that embodies the Roman soul of the Maison. Inspired by Italian art and architecture, the original watch featured a yellow gold bezel engraved with the name Bulgari twice. Now, for 2024, Bulgari unveils new variations that showcase a perfect blend of classic and visionary design.
The latest iterations pair yellow gold with a black dial and rose gold with a silver opaline dial. The timepiece’s versatility is further emphasized with two case sizes: a vintage-inspired 26mm version and a unisex 38 mm model. Once again, the brilliance of Bulgari Bulgari lies in the marriage of a bold bezel design with the minimalism of its dial. Engraved with the double logo, the watch is reminiscent of ancient coins and the bezel gives it unique value.
Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Product Creation Executive Director, describes Bulgari Bulgari as embodying the Maison’s DNA with pure aesthetic beauty. According to Buonamassa Stigliani, the Bulgari Bulgari is “simultaneously simple and daring, always in step with the times.”
The new iterations in yellow and rose gold, in 38 mm and 26 mm sizes, pay homage to the original creation. The yellow gold models feature a black dial with gilded Arabic numerals, while the rose gold version offers a softer visual appeal with a silver opaline dial.
The 38mm version boasts a transparent case back to show the finely finished self-winding mechanical BVL 191 caliber. The 26mm version is powered by a quartz movement and measures just 6.35mm in thickness. Both versions feature geometric lugs. They retail for approximately $9,800 to about $15,000.
The original 1975 Bulgari Bulgari was called Bulgari Roma and boasted a digital indication. That yellow gold watch was made in a limited edition of just 100 pieces, given as gifts to important clients. The Bulgari Bulgari collection experienced a renaissance in 2019 – becoming a more striking and refined timepiece than the digital version. According to Bulgari, celebrities such as Tina Turner, Susan Sarandon, Carol Alt, Bill Gates, Benicio del Toro, George Michael and Zendaya are among those who have proudly worn Bulgari Bulgari.
