Manufacture Royale is a brand we have written about several times here, as we love the masterful technology this brand brings to the forefront. This year, the brand unveils an interesting new collection that is making its way to stores now: the ADN (DNA). The watch houses the brand’s ninth calibre—the MR09 with flying tourbillon, skeletonized movement and two independent time zones. Built in the Manufacture Royale workshops in Vallorbe, Switzerland, this watch is an impressive blend of avant grade and craftsmanship.
Created in a limited edition of just 28 pieces in high-tech materials, the ADN’s case is a hybrid of the brand’s Opera and Androgyne models — with rounded curves and a somewhat “steampunk” style. It features the brand’s signature mobile lugs that pivot on the case and form a sort of stretcher or frame around the center watch. This highly technical construction, with 67 parts, offers great ergonomics on the wrist and a simply cool look.
The 46mm Manufacture Royale ADN watch is available in three variations: stainless steel, stainless steel DLC and forged carbon, and rose gold and forged carbon — each with a very unique look. The home time is indicated at 4:00 on a sub-dial with open-worked centerand two blued steel hands, while the local time, at 12:00, can be set for all time zones, including those with 15- and 30-minute intervals thanks to the fact that the minutes are independent of the primary time zone. The local time zone disk also features the “Manufacture Royale” name on it. The hours are indicated via a secondary ring and numerical display.
The flying tourbillon is mounted on ceramic ball bearings and fixed on one side. The movement features a silicon escapement wheel and pallet. Its balance with regulating screws oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers an impressive 80-hour minimum. The sapphire case back allows for viewing of the movement and tourbillon escapement the watch is offers on a rubber or alligator strap, or with a bracelet and it retails for just over $110,000 for the rose gold and forged carbon version, $97,700 for the black DLC and forged carbon version, or for $90,300 for the stainless steel model. In all, this newest piece — with complex caliber — is a sure-fire winner.
