Hublot Big Bang Meca 10 Magic Gold watch with HUB 1201 Caliber
Just before 2016 came to a close, Hublot unveiled its newest in-house-made movement: HUB1201. The caliber is highly unusual in that its construction enables the interlocking power reserve system to be viewed from the dial side. The movement is housed in a watch the brand is calling the Big Bang Meca-10, with a case made from Hublot’s proprietary Magic Gold, a scratch-resistant gold that is said to be the hardest of its type in the world, with a hardness of almost 1000 Vickers.

New Movement inside Magic Gold Case
Magic Gold was developed and patented by Hublot with the EPFL just over five years ago and it is said that only a diamond is capable of matching the strength of the material. Magic Gold is certified by the Central Office for Precious Metals Control. The scratch-resistant material blends 24-karat gold with ceramic and is produced in the brand’s high-tech foundry at the Nyon Manufacture..
As to the movement, it features two parallel barrels with a rack-driven power reserve indication system and a double power reserve display to show the watch’s 10 days of power reserve. The 45mm watch is being built in a limited edition of just 200 pieces.
Hublot creates its high-tech substances on site in its Nyon manufacture.
