The Classics Runabout collection by Frederique Constant has been a tribute to the idea of embracing the spirit of natural, relaxed, and elegant chic since its launch in 2013. The newest limited-edition releases, the Classics Runabout Automatic, created in collaboration with the Riva Historical Society (RHS), continue this tradition while introducing a vibrant new color to the lineup. For the first time, the collection features bright, contemporary electric blue—evoking the refreshing allure of the sea.
This new color not only adorns the dial, hands, and hour markers but also extends to the topstitching on the calfskin strap. Available in both 42mm and 36mm formats, these new editions are limited to 1,888 pieces each, ensuring their exclusivity.
Frederique Constant, an independent and family-owned brand, was founded in 1988 in Geneva, the heartland of Swiss watchmaking. Meanwhile, the Riva Historical Society was established in Italy to preserve the legacy of the iconic Riva motorboats, celebrated for their craftsmanship and embodiment of the Italian way of life from the 1920s to the 1960s. The partnership between Frederique Constant and the RHS, which began in 2013, has since produced limited-edition watches that honor these legendary vessels.
Every two years, Frederique Constant releases a new limited-edition watch in collaboration with the RHS. Previous editions included sports chronographs and traditional three-hand timepieces. The 2024 release, the Classics Runabout Automatic, combines a three-hands-and-date configuration with a bold, sporty dial, paying homage to the fast pleasure boats known as “runabouts.”
The new edition in two sizes stands out with its electric blue dial, a shade that shifts between turquoise and navy blue depending on the light. This dynamic color captures the essence of speed and the open sea. The dial features the collection’s characteristic Clou de Paris guilloche finish, which reflects light in multiple directions, enhancing its visual appeal. The hour circle has a satin-polished finish that radiates a soft light, and the even-numbered numerals and hour markers are coated in luminous teal to match the dial.
The watch’s steel case, polished to a mirror finish, is water-resistant to 50 meters and is available in both 42mm and 36mm diameters. The FC-303 movement, a reliable caliber with a 38-hour power reserve, powers the timepiece. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback, which also features the RHS flag logo. Each watch is presented in a box with a miniature replica of a Riva boat, emphasizing the connection to the RHS. The smaller version retails for $1,795, while the 42mm sells for $1,895.
