This one is for cigar lovers and watch collectors. And get ready – there are a lot of players in the game. Just recently, CronotempVs Collectors group and The Lounge by Watchonista joined forces with Cuervo y Sobrinos and Eric Giroud’s Somewhere to create a cigar-inspired limited edition Lonsdale watch and presentation case.
The vintage-inspired Lonsdale watch was made in collaboration with Cuervo Y Sobrinos, a Swiss brand with Cuban Heritage. It is created in three versions – each understated and elegant and each reflecting Cuervo y Sobrinos classic pieces from the mid 1900-s in Havana.
The Lonsdale is a stainless steel 40mm case with high-polished lugs, textured metallic dials, Alpha hands and typeface from the era. Each of the three versions is created in a limited edition of 82 pieces and each is named after different shades of traditional cigar wrapper leaves. Candela boasts a silver/green dial, Claro features a champagne dial and the Oscuro sports a rich brown dial. The words “Uno de 82” (one of 82) is engraved on every case back.
The Lonsdale watch is packaged in a presentation case made of Spanish cedar with a leatherette cover with gilded and embossed smoke swirls. The swirl motif was created by top-notch watch designer Eric Giroud as part of his personal design project studio, Somewhere. The box houses the watch, a cigar rest, a gilded co-branded cigar tube and an extra NATO strap that recalls the silk ribbon used to bundle quality cigars. The tray can be removed so the box can become a portable travel or storage case.
Each of the three versions of watches — retailing for 2,500 Euro — can be pre-ordered on the CronotempVs Collectors shop with a down payment. The price does not include taxes or shipping.
The concept was the brainchild of cigar smokers Scaramanga, co-founder of CronotempsVs Collectors and Marco Gabella, publisher of Watchonista online publication and its lifestyle sub-platform, The Lounge. The idea was born while they smoked a couple of Cuban cigars “together” via zoom during the pandemic. They collaborated with Cuervo y Sobrinos and two years later the Lonsdale comes to fruition.
In other news from Watchonista this past fall, the brand launched Watchicity in fall of last year – an aggregate content site designed to replace the now-defunct Watchville by Hodinkee. Now watch lovers can continue to get all the news from all the sites in one place.
