It isn’t every day that watch brands put truly unusual things inside their watches. In fact, we have written about such oddities before, but now we have a truly rare find: Armin Strom’s Manual Cognac watch houses drops of one of the most rare and old bottles of cognac on the market.
The creation comes on the heels of Armin Strom signing a deal with Wealth Solutions in Poland to become the watch brand’s distributor there. Wealth Solutions is a company that procures and sells a host of luxury items including art and liquor. The company acquired the 1762 Gautier Cognac in a Bonham’s auction in 2014. The bottle sold for $59,500 (including premium). It is believed to be from the estate of a European collector and bottled, circa 1840’s. It had a hand-written label, wax seal, driven cork and hand-blown bottle.
When Armin Strom and Wealth Solutions SA forged their agreement, the bottle was opened, decanted and poured into flacons.
Armin Strom then proceeded to capture several drops and place them inside a specially designed (by Claude Greisler, watchmaker extraordinaire and partner in the Armin Strom brand) sapphire crystal flask. The capsule is then incorporated in to the watch.
The Armin Strom Manual Cognac houses a mechanical 117-part manual-wind movement with five days of power reserve. Together with the mechanical fortitude of the watch and the rarity of the cognac and its sealed flask — this 40-piece limited edition is guaranteed to be a collector’s watch that can go the distance.
