In big news just before the LVMH watch week next week, Zenith unveils a new generation of the iconic Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Sport watch that is sleeker, sportier and that houses a new El Primero caliber that measures to 1/10th of a second.
The newest Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Sport collection marks the beginning of new era for this line. The newly developed El Primero 3600 movement is inspired by the brand’s high-frequency automatic caliber that Zenith is renowned for. The El Primero 3600 times life’s many events to 1/10th of a second on an etched black ceramic bezel -that is highly readable.
El Primero 3600 Caliber
As its name indicates, the new caliber beats at 36,000 vibrations per hour – 5 Hz — and offers 60 hours of power reserve. The movement, including a blue column wheel and open rotor, can be viewed via the sapphire case back. The watch is offered with either a black dial or a white dial with the signature El Primero tri-color chronograph registers in bright blue, anthracite gray and light gray. These colors recall the A386 watch from 1969.
The hands and markers of the Zenith El Primero Chronomaster Sport are coated with Super-LumiNova for easy reading at all times of day and night. A tour around the dial showcases the hours and minutes in the center, a small seconds subsidiary dial at 9:00, the 1/10th of a second chronograph with a central seconds hand that makes one turn in 10 seconds. There is also a 60-minute couture at 6L00 and a 60-second counter at 3:00.
The 41mm stainless steel watch is offered with either a stainless steel integrated bracelet that has been designed for enhanced comfort and ergonomics ($10,000), or with a textured cordura-looking rubber strap ($9,500). There is no denying that the Chronomaster and its many evolutions is a sure-fire winner.
