Luxury watch brand Ulysse Nardin has rich roots in the world of marine watches. With a nautical logo and years of chronometer experience, the brand regularly turns out masterpiece watches meant for water use. Now, Ulysse Nardin unveils the Marine Torpilleur. A somewhat more sophisticated Marine watch, the Torpilleur has a slimmer silhouette even though it measures 42mm in diameter. Even better, it is chocked with technology, including an in-house manufacture movement and silicitum technology — all at an incredible starting price of just $6,900 in stainless steel.
In fact, the collection represents a new opening price point for Ulysse Nardin. There are three chronometer models in the line and each houses the UN-118 caliber. The watch is named for the small ships of the 19th century — when Ulysse Nardin built pocket chronometers that were prized by navy officers and merchant mariners alike. The small Torpilleur ships navigated the water more quickly and easily than bigger ships. The newer, thinner version of the iconic Marine Chronometer by Ulysse Nardin — the Torpilleur has donned the perfect name.
Equipped with the self-winding in-house UN-118 movement, the watch features 60 hours of power reserve and has the brand’s proprietary Silicium anchor escapement. It is C.O.S.C-certified, and meets the equally stringent standards imposed by the Ulysse Nardin Performance Certificate, as well. Each of the 42mm watches is water resistant to 50 meters and features a screw-down security crown.
The dial features Roman numerals, power-reserve indication at 12:00 with a splash of red, sub-seconds dial at 6:00 and the brand’s well-known logo “1846” in red. The three versions include two in stainless steel — one with a white dial and one with an ocean blue dial — and a version in stainless steel and 18-karat rose gold.

I love the Marine Torpilleur and do not have a Ulysse Nardin in my collection. I had a tough time buying one in my area (San Francisco, CA) and ended up buying one from the Ulysse Nardin Boutique in NYC. It’s a gorgeous addition to my collection. Your review of this timepiece is spot on!
Thank you Paul for acknowledging the review and I think you made a great choice! You know Stephen Silver Jewelers sells Uylsse Nardin … just FYI.
