Today in New York City, TAG Heuer unveils its newest generation of Connected watch — offering elegance and high-tech experiences all wrapped up in a neat $1,800 package. While the global unveiling happens tonight, we are able to bring you a sneak peek at it this morning. Stay tuned, though, because we will be back with hands-on pictures and more detailed information tomorrow.
The new watch marks the fifth year in a row that TAG Heuer has presented luxury connected timepieces. Up until now the new kid on the block had been the recently released Connected Modular Golf Edition — meant for use out on the links. The newest baby combines elegance and refinement with additional state-of-the-art digital experiences. Among the features: daily connected services offered from Wear OS by Google, immersive sports experiences thanks to the new TAG Heuer Sports app (that tracks golf, running, cycling, walking, fitness and more), a built-in GPS and heart-rate monitor, and other sensors. There is even a newly developed TAG Heuer mobile companion app that allows for intense personalization of tracking.
The Looks of the new TAG Heuer Connected Watch 2020
More than a year and a half in the development stages, the 45mm stainless steel or titanium watch is chronograph inspired with features such as the brand’s signature facetted lugs, graduated ceramic bezel, central rotating crown flanked by two functional pushers, a screwed caseback and multiple bracelet and strap choices. The dial offers an OLED touch screen with sapphire crystal and the battery life has been extended thanks to an alternating screen that goes between sleep and active modes — always indicating the time, of course.
Wearers can choose between five always-on mechanical- or digital- inspired TAG Heuer watch faces (including a three-hand, a skeletonized dial revealing the Heuer 02 movement, a Carrera Heuer 01, liquid-crystal-like display, and more), or can customize as they like.
Fear not, if you want your strap or bracelet to change as much as the dial colors and looks can change, TAG Heuer has thought to that, too. It offers an intuitive interchangeable bracelet system.
The Technology behind the TAG Heuer Connected Watch
The new watch is powered by “Wear OS by Google, the TAG Heuer Connected watch supports wearers throughout every activity of their day with invaluable services such as Google Assistant and Google Translate using the microphone located on the left side of the case, e-mail and message notifications, Google Pay in shops and countries where this service is enabled, as well as music controls, an agenda, weather, maps and more with Google Play and its wide selection of apps, available for iOS and Android mobile users alike.”
The physical features of the case are fully and instinctively integrated to enhance the sports experience and allow for even more precise commands: the 2- and 4-o’clockpushers provide app-opening shortcuts, along with start, pause, resume and reset functions, and the rubber-coated crown offers a second option for scrolling through the information on display, ideal for in-action usability.”
TAG Heuer Chiefs Strategy And Digital Officer Frederic Arnault On the Connected Watch
According to TAG Heuer’s Chief Strategy and Digital Officer, Frédéric Arnault, “The TAG Heuer Connected watch was designed and engineered with the same passion and attention to detail as our mechanical watches. Quality of execution is paramount in everything we do, and we never compromise on aesthetics or emotion. The Connected watch is not only a beautiful timepiece, it’s a truly immersive experience, as it now sits within a complete TAG Heuer digital ecosystem geared towards performance and sports. The navigation has been deeply refined so the product is as intuitive and easy to use as possible, both in everyday life and during sports sessions. It expresses the brand in a completely new way and offers limitless possibilities in terms of innovation for the future. Thanks to the talent and dedication of our teams, the new Connected is a truly brand-defining product that will lead the way into a newera for TAG Heuer.”
