In a nod to its illustrious watchmaking heritage, Bulova, the renowned New York-based timepiece brand, has unveiled its latest masterpiece – the Oceanographer GMT Collection. Drawing inspiration from its iconic 1972 “Devil Diver” watch, this new collection marries the timeless elegance of vintage designs with modern functionality.
Bulova’s Oceanographer GMT Collection is tailored for the modern traveler, and its pièce de résistance is the high-performance 9075 premium Miyota automatic movement. This exceptional movement allows wearers to effortlessly track a second time zone by adjusting the standard 12-hour hand, catering to the needs of globetrotters who need to keep an eye on both local and foreign time. With an impressive accuracy of -10/+30 seconds per day and a substantial 42-hour power reserve, the Oceanographer GMT is a testament to Bulova’s commitment to craftsmanship and precision.
The Oceanographer GMT’s distinctive design roots itself in Bulova’s history of supplying robust and waterproof timepieces to the U.S. military. Originally intended for diving expeditions, the watch snugly fits on the diver’s wrist and comes equipped with a rotating bezel. Its memorable moniker, “Devil Diver,” was earned when Bulova boldly inscribed “666 feet” on the dial, signifying its underwater depth rating according to the Imperial system, a deviation from the conventional 200m standard used by Swiss watchmakers.
Bulova unveils the Oceanographer GMT in three captivating color combinations, each designed to cater to a unique sense of style and purpose. The “root beer” variant, named for its classic brown and black bi-directional rotating bezel, perfectly complements an IP plated rose gold tone stainless steel case and bracelet. Meanwhile, the “lume” watch offers a striking monochrome aesthetic with a gunmetal IP plated case and bezel, unidirectional elapsed time indication, and a grey silicone textured strap set against a full luminous white dial. Lastly, the “pepsi” version brings to life the timeless red and blue hues synonymous with dive watches, presented alongside a stainless steel case, a bi-directional rotating bezel with 24-hour GMT indication, and a matching bracelet.
The Oceanographer GMT Collection boasts an array of noteworthy features, including a 41mm case with a screw-down crown for added durability, a double-domed box sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, and an impressive water resistance rating of 200 meters, symbolized by the iconic “666 feet” boldly displayed on the dial, along with “Snorkel.” The watches sell for $1,295 to $1,395.
