Horological Society of New York Takes Traveling Education show on the road in USA
Watch lovers take note: if you want to take a master class in watchmaking — with no prior experience — this fall may well be your chance. The Horological Society of New York (HSNY), America’s oldest watchmaking guild dating back to1866, is bringing some of it educational classes on the road in September and October.
If Detroit, Orange County, CA, or San Francisco are your hood — you can join in. Of course, you can do that regularly in New York, as well. The travel schedule: Detroit (hosted by StockX) on September 14, 15; Orange County (hosted by A. Lange & Sohne) September 28,29; San Francisco (hosted by Shreve & Co.) October 5,6. There are also some traveling courses in Washington D.C. in October.
Horological Society of New York’s Traveling Education program enables hands-on workshops even for beginners.
The sessions are four-hour courses with hands-on experience. Attendees will disassemble and reassemble an ETA 6497 movement. They will also enjoy HSNY’s Horology 101-103 courses that include movement mechanics, gear training, and winding & setting. As mentioned, the classes are created for any level of enthusiast and no prior experience is required.
All courses are taught by HSNY’s certified instructors. The horological society has been offering these classes for nearly 70 years (since the 1950’s) in an effort to make watchmaking accessible to all. The Traveling Education program has been in place since 2016, and has traveled to Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, England and other countries in addition to traversing the United States.
