Recently, at the Las Vegas Couture Time show, Zenith unveiled two new limited edition series of its more famed Pilot watches — geared only for the North American market. The Pilot Type 20 GMT and the Pilot Type 20 Extra Special watches are created in a limited edition of just 50 pieces each. Additionally, each boasts a rich blue dial that makes it stand out in a crowd.
The Pilot Type 20 GMT is an ultra-light 48mm watch crafted in black DLC titanium. The crown is notched for easy gripping, and, true to the brand’s historical pilot watches that inspired this timepiece, it features a domed sapphire crystal and red dial accents. Powered by the Elite automatic caliber 693, the watch offers dual time indication and is water resistant to 100 meters. The case back is engraved with the Wright Brothers “Flyer” glider. it retails for $7,800.
The second watch, the Pilot Type 20 Extra Special, is a 45mm timepiece with screw-lock crown and oversized numerals — making this watch all about legibility. The words “Extra Special” are written in red against the blue dial. The watch is powered by the automatic Elite 679 caliber with 50 hours of power reserve. The caseback timepiece is engraved with the plane flown by French pilot Louis Bleriot, who crossed the English Channel in 1909, wearing a Zenith watch. It is also engraved with the Zenith flight instrument logo — recalling the brand’s rich roots in aviation. Water resistant t o100 meters, the Pilot Type 20 Extra Special, is finished with a color-coordinated blue alligator strap and retails for $6,600.
