German watch brand Tutima has made a lot of strides this year in terms of new product development and extensions of its beloved collections. Recently, during Dubai Watch Week, we got a sneak peek at this new Patria Dual Time watch in steel — and it is a beauty.
Not only does it look clean and sophisticated (could we expect anything less from this German brand?), but also it has the perfect weight and size to it. Measuring 43mm in diameter, the watch features the Dual Time zone indication in the lower subsidiary dial at 6:00 — the spot usually occupied by a sub-seconds dial. Make no mistake, the seconds hand is also in the smaller subdial, but this discreet placement of the dual time indication means that, at a quick glance, most will think it is a simple three-hand watch. Only the wearer knows the added function is there. The second time zone indication is via a 12-hour display.
Created entirely in-house in Tutima’s Saxony workshops, the Patria is powered by the Caliber Tutima 619 manual-winding movement with 20 jewels, including three that are set in screw-mounted gold chatons. The caliber is equipped with an index-free oscillating system with Breguet hairspring, open-worked balance cock, and a Glashütte three-quarter-plate. It offers 65 hours of power reserve when fully wound. The case is water resistant to 5 atm, and features a domed sapphire crystal and case-back for viewing the finely finished movement.
There are two versions of this piece, with silver opaline dial. One — my favorite– showcases stylized Arabic numerals on the dial, with an outer minute track. The other is even cleaner with simple stick marks on the dial and no outer minute track. This watch is designed to be worn day, night, or weekend because it easily transitions from day to night, from business to social time.
While Tutima has had this watch in the line up in 18-karat gold, this marks the first time the brand offers it in stainless steel.
