German watch brand Tutima has a rich history in creating pilot and aviation watches. Now, the brand brings its expertise to a more affordable collection of sporty Flieger watches. Just in time for the holiday gift-giving season. Several versions of the new Tutima Flieger watches are being offered, including one with a bold green gradient dial, as well as versions with anthracite gray and black dials.
The Tutima Flieger watches are inspired by the brand’s legendary pilot watches from the 1940’s. They are powered by the automatic Tutima Caliber 330 with rotor featuring an 18-karat gold seal. In addition to hours, minutes and sweep seconds, the watch has a date display. The numerals and the skeletonized hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, while bright baton-shaped indices and the typical pilot’s watch symbol at “12 o’clock” guarantee optimum legibility. Orange or red markings create fresh and individualistic accents.
The 41mm stainless steel watch offers 38 hours of power reserve and is sold on a stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp, but leather straps are also available. Water resistant to 10 ATM, the Grand Flieger is finished with a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and a screw-in crown. The movement is visible via a sapphire case back. On a strap, the watches retail for $1,650, and on the luxe bracelet, they sell for $1,950.
While they are all bold yet sophisticated, and highly legible, pilot watches, the rich forest green dial is my favorite. The gradient green flows from dark to bright — visually arresting the eye.
The watch is a definite reminder of the brand’s aviation roots. In fact, even today, Tutima is the title sponsor of the Tutima Academy of Aviation safety in California. Run by Sean D. Tucker, aerobatic aviation specialist, the program provides the most in-depth and thorough training to professionals who want to focus on aerobatics or even simply confidence training.
