A couple of nights ago in New York City, Montblanc celebrated the opening of its Madison Avenue Boutique – with a star-studded guest roster and outstanding product. Leading the event was the recently appointed global CEO, Jerome Lambert, and Montblanc North America President and CEO, Jan-Patrick Schmitz.
One of the real stars of the show was the all-new ExoTourbillon Rattrapante. While this Collection Villeret 1858 timepiece was shown at the Hong Kong Watches & Wonders show in September, it is not expected to make its way onto the market until sometime in the first half of 2014. We had the chance to get up close and personal with this mega watch that offers tourbillon, split-seconds chronograph and more. Created totally by hand in the brand’s Villeret workshops (which we have toured and written about), the ExoTourbillon offers a large balance positioned outside the tourbillon’s rotating cage and a 3D regulator dial with second time zone and day/night indicator. The
dial is created in gold and grand feu enamel. Just 18 pieces of this stunning 47mm watch will ever be built. The Manufacture Calibre 16.61 consists of 411 parts and offers 55 hours of power reserve. It retails for about $220,000 and is superb work of art and craftsmanship. It is too bad that just 18 lucky watch lovers will get to own it.
As to the new boutique – it is a 3,200-square-foot space on Madison Avenue around 57th Street that boasts creative Swarovski crystal chandeliers, a private viewing salon and an entire wall dedicated to the written word — with the largest collection of limited-edition writing instruments in
North America, including the “Signature for Good Collection” benefitting UNICEF that was launched during the 2013 Academy Awards will be available until March 2014.
