Earlier this year at the SIHH, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled a wonderful new collection inspired by its past: Polaris. The complete Polaris collection, inspired by the Memovox watches, included an interesting array of watches, including a chronograph and the Polaris Memovox alarm dive watch. Now, the brand expands the line with the exciting Jaeger-LeCoultire Polaris Geographic WT (World Time) watch. Recently, at The Pool in New York, we went hands on with this watch, and we think you are going to love it. You may even want to think about it for Father’s Day, which is coming up very soon.
Created in a limited edition of just 250 pieces (and available only at Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques), the Polaris Geographic WT watch is inspired by the 1968 Memovox Polaris, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. The new piece has been redesigned for a sporty chic appeal. The 42 mm stainless steel case houses the in-house-made Calibre 936A/1, a mechanical self-winding movement with the geographic world-travel function.
The Polaris Geographic WT displays the world’s top 24 time zones on a flange. By adjusting the crown at 10:00, the wearer can switch between the cities to indicate the time. There is also a white asterisk that indicates daylight saving time for those cities switching between standard and daylight saving time. In addition to the world time function, this watch has a super cool look to it thanks to the blue/black dial. In fact the main dial is a dark smoky blue and the subdials for the calendar (2:00), the second time zone (6:00) and the power reserve (10:00) are sun ray black. These offset the opaline city disk nice. The city disk has a black and a white section that also indicates day or night in the second time zone. Additionally a small sun indicates the daytime hours (black numbers on white background), while a tiny crescent moon indicates the night hours (white numbers on black background). Thank the shorter horns and slimmer bezel, the new Polaris WT has a more contemporary feel to it. The strong look, the great functions and the on-target pricing of $13,600 make this watch a winner.
