Few know today that Hamilton watch company was founded in America — back in 1892 in Lancaster, PA. Because the brand is owned today by Swiss luxury conglomerate, Swatch Group, it is a Swiss brand and Swiss made. However, the company long remembers and indulges in its American roots. That is why the brand teamed up recently with Schott NYC (founded in 1913 in New York City) to create a special pilot watch. Both companies have long relationships with the U.S. Army.
During World War II, Hamilton was chose by the Army to provide watches for pilots. The company even stopped its regular series production during that time in order to fulfill the Army needs. At the same time, Schott NYC was a supplier to the pilots of leather aviator bomber jackets. Both brands rely on hand craftsmanship, precision and excellence when creating their products.
Now, the two teamed up and are unveiling the 46mm Khaki Pilot Schott NYC watch. The stealth aviation inspired timepiece houses the H-30 automatic day-date movement with 80 hours of power reserve. The time is displayed on a khaki green dial with contrasting light green Super-LumiNova® hands and numerals that offer clarity and readability at a glance – even in the dark.
The strap is made by Schott NYC, which has specially selected each piece of top grain, full aniline, lightweight steer hide leather for the 1,892 limited-edition pieces. The strap is made in Federal Standard military color 30099 — an Earth Brown color and the leather is the same that the brand uses in its bomber jackets. The stiff leather quickly adapts to the wrist, aging softer and more form fitting over time, just like the jackets. The 1892 pieces is both a nod to Hamilton’s founding year and to the birth year of Irving Schott, the first to use zippers in a jacket.
The watch is being sold in a specially created leather case made exclusively by Schott NYC for Hamilton. It is sewn by hand using traditional techniques at the Schott NYC factory in Union, New Jersey. The folding case is lined with plaid heavy weight brushed cotton and features side entry pockets and a card holder for travel. The watch retails fort $1,145.
