Drawing inspiration from the vibrant and creative era of the 1960s, Glashütte Original has crafted a new timepiece that encapsulates the spirit of that decade while embracing the present. The Sixties Small Second watch pays homage to timeless originality and places emphasis on the small seconds display.
The 1960’s left an indelible mark on society, with its influence still evident today in music, fashion, and architecture around the world. It was a time of self-expression, a thirst for change, and a desire to explore new horizons. These values, so integral to the era, continue to inspire Glashütte Original in their creative endeavors. The Sixties Small Second seamlessly blends the essence of the 1960s with contemporary style and precision.
Adding to the Glashütte Original Vintage Collection, and for the first time, the Saxon manufacturer presents an elegant timepiece featuring a small seconds display. The fastest of the three hands takes center stage, showcased through a dedicated display at 6 o’clock. But it is the typeface on this piece that is so compelling thanks to the nod to the 1960’s.
Within the galvanic silver dial, the small seconds subdial boasts a refined vinyl-type finish. The 42mm rose gold case harmoniously matches the color of the hands, indexes, and numerals. The sapphire crystal, treated with an anti-reflective coating on both sides, ensures excellent legibility, while its domed shape echoes the gently curved form of the dial and hands. Completing the fashionable Sixties design, the watch is finished with a matte green Louisiana alligator leather strap.
The watch is powered by the in-house-made Automatic caliber 39-60 with hour, minute and subsidiary seconds. The movement beats at 4Hz, boasts balance wheel with three arms and an Anacreon balance spring. It is water resistant to 3 bar. $16,000.
