Four score and five years ago the horological manufacture Jaeger-LeCoutre produced what would be one of the most iconic watches in the industry: the Reverso. One of the first true sports watches, the piece was originally designed for Polo players in 1931. The watch dial side would face up when worn recreationally, but when it came to game time, the Polo player could easily reverse the dial side down for protection. Over the years the duality of the Reverso has received creative treatment from the manufacturer, and has seen designs ranging from engraving, to gem-setting, enameling, and high-watchmaking complications on both sides of the watch.
To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the watch’s birth, Jaeger-LeCoutre has unveiled a host of new expressions this year, but there are several more “classic” expressions of the iconic watch that are bound to catch the eye of new collectors and watch lovers: Reverso Classic, Reverso Tribute and Reverso One — in small, medium and large sizes so that no matter your watch size preference and body type, you can now find a Reverso that suits your tastes.
The Classic version is powered by the quartz Jaeger-LeCoutre caliber 657 and measures 34mm x 21mm x 7.40mm, while the medium and large watches are powered by the self-winding caliber 965. They measure 40mm x 24.4 x 9.0mm and 45.6mm x 27.4mm x 9.70mm respectively. All three have the option of black leather strap or metal bracelet. We covered the full gamut of new pieces during this year’s SIHH and you can read more about them here.
The key point of information here is that the pieces are now available in store! For me, an avid watch lover, the design I’ll be saving my pennies for is the Reverso Tribute Calendar. The front displays the time, day, month and day of the month with moon phase complication, while the reverse displays the time on a second zone with day/night indicator and it is everything you could ever want in a watch. For this one, give it to me on a brown alligator strap to match the pink gold case, and I am ready for any board or client meeting that may come my way.
