With the 2023 Ironman championship races right around the corner, the much-anticipated events are, of course, squarely in the news. And so is Breitling, which introduced two new Endurance Pro IRONMAN limited edition watches just last week to commemorate the 2023 IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon events. Each is in the distinct color scheme of the race, and each is limited to just 250 pieces. Both are delivered on an Ironman-branded rubber strap and feature the race logo at 6 o’clock on the dial.
The first, in turquoise, is the Endurance Pro IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon, which marks the competition in Lahti, Finland, August 26 and 27. The second, in blue, commemorates the men’s competition in Nice, France, on September 10 and the women’s competition in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on October 14, 2023. Both timepieces are 44m in diameter.
The blue model is crafted from titanium and the turquoise version is made from Breitlight®. The double tang-style buckle is in matching metal. Breitlight(R) is almost six times lighter than stainless steel and about 3.3 times lighter than titanium. It is considered thermally stable, as well as non-magnetic, hypoallergenic and scratch resistant. The high-tech material was launched in 2016, making its debut in Breitling’s Avenger Hurricane timepiece that same year.
It seems to me that such a robust material is a good choice for a watch subjected to the rigors of the Ironman competition. And its light weight can be nothing but a major plus during the strenuous competition in which every bit of endurance is tested.
The watches, 12.5mm in height, are water resistant to 100m and feature flat sapphire glass, glare proof on both sides. The caseback is solid and is decorated with a sizable Ironman logo. The bi-directional bezel has a compass scale.
The models are fitted with Breitling’s Caliber 82, a COSC-certified thermocompensated SuperQuartz™ movement with useful details for daily use as well as for participating in a rigorous race. The displays are easy to read, and the quartz battery life is an admirable two years. The colorful accents of turquoise or blue not only reference the respective races, but also add a stylish touch to the all-black dials, which have luminescent Arabic numerals. The crown, too, is accented with either turquoise or blue to further highlight the color scheme of the timepiece.Naturally, the case backs of each carry the words Ironman World Championship.
The watches are priced between $3,600 – $3,950 and are available on Breitling.com, from select Breitling boutique and retailers, and at the Official IRONMAN Merchandise Store at the race location.
These two new versions follow the red Endurance Pro IRONMAN and the black-and-gold Endurance Pro IRONMAN Finisher from a couple of years ago, both of which are now part of Breitling’s core collection.
