In the world of luxury watchmaking, innovation and tradition often come together to create timepieces that are not only functional but also pieces of art. Corum, a brand renowned for its commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional watchmaking, has embarked on a new endeavor that incorporates ceramic into its esteemed Admiral timepieces collection. Drawing inspiration from the ever-fascinating maritime world, the Admiral 42 Ceramic collection is initially introduced with two models.
Ceramic, as a material, has been a trusted companion in the maritime realm for many years due to its exceptional properties. Ceramic also proves to be an environmentally friendly choice compared to traditional products, aligning perfectly with the increasing emphasis on sustainability. Transcending its maritime uses, ceramic has made a seamless transition into the world of high-end watchmaking, offering a multitude of advantages.
Comprising aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and zirconium oxide (ZrO2), this material is notably lighter, approximately 20-25%, than the industry-standard 316L steel alloy. Furthermore, its high hardness level makes it exceptionally scratch-resistant and resistant to oxidation, ensuring a timepiece that can stand the test of time. As such, and because of the great looks of white and black ceramic, Corum embraces the material in its Admiral series with a white and a black version — each also incorporating 18-karat 5N rose gold for the geometric bezel. Gold tone hands and markers also accent the dial.
Retailing for 18,000 Swiss Francs, the watches are powered by the CO 395 automatic movement with hours, minutes, small seconds and date indication. They offer 42 hours of power reserve. They are also fitted with sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating. The case back is screwed with sapphire crystal inset.
The watches are offered with a black or white vulcanized rubber strap and are water resistant to 50 meters. The indexes feature the iconic nautical pennants that are unique to the Admiral collection and pay homage to the world of seafaring.
