It was over year ago that Roger Dubuis announced its partnership with Lamborghini, and since then the brand has created a host of intriguing watches under the Aventador line. Now, Roger Dubuis unveils the second watch in the Lamborghini collaboration: Excalibur Huracàn Performante. Created in a limited edition of just 88 pieces, the second caliber developed for this partnership features an automatic winding system with a twin barrels and a 12-degree angled balance wheel.
In fact, the new skeletonize caliber — RD630 — is multi-layered with the upper portions bridge designed like the strut-bar in the V10 engine of the Lamborghini Huracán. According to Roger Dubuis, in fact, “the mechanism is designed and engineered like a super car engine with air intakes, twin barrels, life cell protection unit and strut-bars.” The 233-part caliber offers hours, minutes, central seconds and a date display, and has 60 hours of power reserve. Its manipulate is shot-blasted and coated with NAC, as are the bridges. The black is accented with bright Lamborghini yellow.
The 45mm watch is crafted in Grade 5 titanium and features a fluted titanium bezel. The case is shot blasted for a grainy effect that emulates the Technical Titan Grey of the Huracán Super Trofeo Evo. The bright yellow Lamborghini accents are inspired by the Super Trofeo Lamborghini. This watch will be sold exclusively via the Roger Dubuis boutiques next year. $52,500.
Recently, we got to go hands-on with the watch, as well as with the Roger Dubuis Aventador watches and with the Excalibur Spider Pirelli watches and the Aventador S watches at the DreamRacing track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. There, we got to drive Lamborghini race cars on the track, do some drifting in Lamborghini’s and more. The “Raging Mechanics” event took place over the course of two days, and was designed to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Roger Dubuis and Lamborghini.
Interestingly, the Excalibur Aventador S timepieces and the Excalibur Spider Pirelli watches feature straps made using winning Pirelli tire rubber. Roger Dubuis had formed a partnership with Pirelli in 2017 to create straps using winning tires only for its Spider Pirelli line.
“Fine watchmaking is boring. We didn’t just want a co-partnership agreement where we put a logo on a watch. We have common values and we wanted their engineers to work with our watchmakers to come with new innovation to offer new experiences to the customer,” says Dorothee Henrio, International Marketing Director for Roger Dubuis. “We are a serial innovator. We know Roger Dubuis is not a watch for everyone, and we love that fact. You either fall in love with Roger Dubuis, or you hate us, but at least we are able to create emotion via an extravagant watch.”
