It is a known fact that when you pick up a pen and sign a document with your own hands versus digitally, it has a longer lasting impact in your mind and renders an indelible memory. That may well be why two top Swiss brands have joined forces to create a powerful and great-looking limited-edition set that consists of a watch and a pen. Family owned Caran d’ Ache, which has been creating Swiss-made writing and drawing instruments since 1915, and family owned Carl F. Bucherer watch brand, which has been hand crafting Swiss watches since 1888 embark on a new project: Signature Moments.
Both brands, each with a passion for Swiss-made excellence and a penchant for beauty, worked together to create a limited edition of 188 sets of the Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Signature watch and a striking Caran d’Ache Signature rollerball pen to match. The highlight of these sets: the incredible color and craftsmanship inherent in each piece. Presented in a travel pouch made of sustainable material and sold in a wooden box, the set is meant to celebrate the moments in time when a real signature, not a digital thumbprint, marks an important occasion, a memory to last forever.
The Caran d’Ache, Carl F. Bucherer Signature Moments Set
For this first foray into time and writing, Carl F. Bucherer selected one of its most sophisticated and sporty flagship watches: the Manero Flyback chronograph that times events and has the ability to reset and restart the stop watch chronograph timer with a simple touch of a button. The watch in the set boasts a silvered dial with graphite (pencil-colored) subsidiary dials for elegant contrast. However, instead of coordinated makers, the hour markers on this watch recall some of the key colors of the Caran d’Ache colored pencils. The bold burst of 12 differently colored pencil-point tipped markers is a celebration of color.
The 43mm stainless steel case houses the CFB 1970 automatic chronograph flyback movement with 42 hours of power reserve. The watch is finished with a color-coordinated NATO textile strap that is sustainable thanks to the fact that it sis 100 percent made from recycled PET bottles. It also boasts a calfskin patch. There are two strap versions sold with each watch: one with a blue and black strap and one with a beige, gray and red strap.
The accompanying Caran d’Ache Signature writing instrument that is part of the set is rhodium- and silver-coated to match the case of the watch. It boasts deep ribbing in a “crown effect” guilloche’ on the entire body. Within the ribs are the same color-coordinated pencil-point arrow tips that match the markers on the watch dial. Each pen clip features a thin red line engraved in it that emulates the red-tipped central seconds hand on the watch and the red subsidiary minute counter hand. The writing instruments crated using traditional guilloche and lacquering techniques. Each pen is equipped with a black rollerball cartridge F. Just 188 pieces of the watch and pen will be made and will be sold as a limited edition set. Each set retails for $6,900.
