The much-anticipated movie, Avatar: The Way of Water made its debut just a couple of weeks ago. A sequel film to Avatar that launched in 2009, the new movie was years in the making and three years for the underwater filming to be completed up to the high technical standards of director James Cameron (think the movie Titanic). To celebrate the new movie, a Disney film, Citizen, which has an ongoing partnership with Disney, unveils its first watch collection inspired by the science fiction film.
Designed to recall the reef and water life of the focus family in the movie, the three watches offer dramatic colors or scenes on the dials. Being billed as a men’s watch, a ladies’ watch and a unisex watch, they are all powered by Citizen’s proprietary Eco-Drive light technology – reinforcing the brand’s commitment to sustainability. The light-powered watches mean that there is never a battery to replace.
The Unisex Wave watch has the most detailed scene on the dial of the three watches. Depicting the landscape of Pandora, it features a blue sea with waves and reefs with sea life. In the background is a vibrant green mountain and yellow sunset surrounded by orang and magenta hues. The silver sunray dial features an outer ring in blue with the hour markers on it. Crafted in s stainless steel, the watch is finished with a sustainable brown leather strap and is water resistant to 100 meters.
The watch that Citizen is billing as the ladies’ timepiece features a multi-hued blue/purple dial with pink “Tree of Souls” motifs on it. The Tree of Soul is supposed to the closest alliance to Eywa on Pandora. The markers are crystal and the hands are luminous. Paired with a black leather strap to complement the black IP coated stainless steel case, this watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
The men’s Wave watch is a dive-inspired stainless steel watch with stainless steel bracelet. Impressive at a glance, it is the rich ocean blue dial with a silver-hued sea creature known as the Leonpteryx – which is used for transport – taking center stage. The dial is surrounded by a turquoise colored ring and an outer bi-color minute track ring in turquoise and black that tracks the 24-hour mode. The watch has color-coordinated white and turquoise luminescent hands and is a monopusher chronograph that measures up to 60 minutes. It also offers dual time zones, a perpetual calendar and is water resistant to 100 meters. Each of the three Citizen Avatar watches is light powered and sells from between $250 and $325.
