Just opened in New York City (with the Grand Opening event planned for next month) is the first Vacheron Constantin USA boutique, at 729 Madison Avenue (at 64th street). With the opening of this luxurious boutique, the brand reinforces its international presence, as it is the company’s 28th worldwide boutique. Vacheron Constantin first established itself in North America in 1832 and has maintained a strong presence ever since. This venerable brand has been worn by members of the Rockefeller family, Henry James, Henry Graves and James Ward Packard over the years, to name but a few. Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower each owned a Vacheron Constantin.
Now, in honor of the New York boutique opening, Vacheron Constantin releases three exclusive boutique watches that will only be sold at the store: The Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar Boutique New York (seen here), the Historiques American 1921 Boutique New York and the Patrimony Tradionnelle Calibre 2755 Boutique New York.
Yesterday, Atimelyperspective got the grand opportunity to see the Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar up close and personal and it’s a beauty. It bears the colors of the American flag in all its glory with a rich blue dial and blue alligator strap. The back of the strap is bright red leather and the accents on the dial, including the hands are red. The watch is meant to recall the brand’s presence in the USA and does so strikingly. The combination of a chronograph and perpetual calendar complication make the watch both a sport and elegant timepiece – and, of course, a highly sought-after mechanical work of art. The watch houses the 228-part self-winding caliber 1136 inside the 42mm steel case and is created in a limited edition of 20 individually numbered pieces. The calendar offers day, date, month on a 48-month cycle with leap year and moon phases. I spent some time with this watch and let me tell you that it is incredibly easy to use and to change the time, date settings. There is also a version with a chestnut brown calfskin strap, but who can pass on the blue alligator-strapped, red-lined model? Especially with a retail price of just $62,000.
