Arnold & Son takes this new Chinese New Year — Year of the Ox – -to new heights with its powerful Perpetual Moon watch that pays tribute to the loyal animal. The eight-piece limited edition watch features the brand’s signature high-precision moon phase indication in an aperture at 12:00 on the dial. It boasts an oversized mother-of-pearl moon that is painted with Super-LumiNova so that it actually glows in the dark, along with three stars in constellation.
The rest of the stunning black dial features an Asian pagoda background with a carved 18-karat gold buffalo in the 6:00 region. The buffalo features stylized horns that demonstrate its majesty. The black dial is made of layered hematite — an oxide stone often used in jewelry because of its shimmer. Additionally, thanks to its iron content, the stone is distinguished by slivery flakes.
The watch is powered by Arnold & Son’s A&S1512 in-house-made mechanical caliber. It is based on a large barrel with 3Hz frequency and offers 90 hours of power reserve. The moon phase display is accurate for 122 years before needing a on-day adjustment. There is also a second moon phase indicator on the back of the hand-wound watch.
The beautiful timepiece is crafted in a 42mm case made of 18-karat 5N rose gold and features a sapphire case back for viewing of the finely finished movement. An alligator strap with glittering specs on it and red alligator lining with platinum thread completes the look. It is one of the most exceptional Year of the Ox watches. The retail price is approximately $50,000.
