This past weekend, the new Warner Bros Pictures Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom made its debut in theaters. Also claiming a spot center stage was a prop developed by Swiss watch brand IWC Schaffhausen that helps light up the water in either red or blue. Taking inspiration from that prop, IWC went on to create the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watch.
The watch is an offshoot of the concept that IWC’s experimental division, XPL, developed for special watches that then equipped the villains of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dr. Stephen Shin, played by Randall Park — so their underwater lumen glowed in either of red or blue Super-LumiNova®.
The new Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month diver’s watches inspired by the prop are offered in two speical-edition versions, each limited to just 25 pieces. With imposing 49-millimeter cases built using IWC’s proprietary Ceratanium®, black dials, and black rubber straps, these timepieces showcase IWC’s commitment to stealth looks, superb precision and innovation. The watches boast Super-LumiNova hands, inner rotating bezel and makers on the black dial. One version is crated in a striking blue hue, while the other is bright fire-engine red.
The standout feature of these limited editions is the perpetual calendar with digital date and month displays. The IWC-manufactured automatic-winding 89802 caliber, visible through the sapphire crystal back, powers this intricate mechanism, offering not only precise timekeeping but also a chronograph function with a 68-hour power reserve.
The Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month incorporates IWC’s SafeDive system with an inner rotating bezel that showcases the dive time and that, by being an inner rotating bezel, cannot accidentally be pushed or moved – ensuring the safety of diver. The external/internal rotating bezel system aids divers in monitoring their oxygen levels and dive time accurately.
The limited-edition Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is available through selected IWC boutiques and eligible for registration under the My IWC care program, extending the standard 2-year International Limited Warranty to 8 years. Each watch comes with the My IWC Passport digital watch certificate. Each version retails for $57,600.
The cast of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom includes ason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman, among others.
