That’s the end result of the actions taken in WWII by German BF109 Pilot Franz Stigler when he, in German territory, refused to shoot down an already-wounded US B17 plane piloted by Charlie Brown. Their incredible story is written in the new book “A Higher Call: An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War” by Larry Alexander and Adam Makos.
