Once again, the Swiss watchmaker from Le Brassus pulls out all the stops and enters a new collaboration with fourth-generation Italian jeweler Carolina Bucci. Previously, the two worked on hand-hammered Frosted Gold Royal Oak watches, but today they bring color to the forefront. The newest partnership yields a 34mm Royal Oak Self-winding limited edition watch in black ceramic. The color comes into play in the form of a unique multi-colored mirror effect on the dial that pays tribute to Audemars Piguet’s iconic Tapisserie design.
Inspired by urban landscapes, Carolina Bucci plays with a large spectrum of colors to reinterpret the watch’s iconic Tapisserie effect, with color emerging as the different light shines on the metallic brass dial plate. The same metalized effect is applied to the back of the sapphire crystal to create a mirror that shines in the different iridescent colors of the rainbow.
With this creation, Bucci and Audemars Piguet pay tribute to the Royal Oak’s 50th anniversary. The black ceramic case and bracelet of the Royal Oak naturally feature the famed hexagonal pink gold screws on the bezel. The case and bracelet are finished in a satin mode and the titanium and sapphire case back is engraved with the words, “Limited Edition Carolina Bucci.” Powered by the Caliber 5800, which indicates the hours, minutes, seconds and date, the watch boasts a 22-karat pink gold oscillating microbead-blasted oscillating weight.
“I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street,” says Bucci in a written release. “So here you have every color of the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black.”
